What is ninjago ? Ninjago is the latest Lego franchise to be produced into a new feature film following The LEGO Movie and The LEGO Batman Movie. Whilst former featured a lot of characters from pop culture to ease audiences in, and Batman was just a wackier version of the character we all know and love, Ninjago is something that many people will never of heard of before, or will have little knowledge of.

Ninjago is a line of LEGO products that has been running since 2010, with over 100 sets having been released in addition to a popular children’s animated series. The Ninjago universe is a mixture of the modern world, ancient villages, mythology, and robots.

The world of Ninjago is split between the peaceful land of Ninjago and the Dark Island, home of the evil ninja Master Garmadon and his dark army hell bent on world conquest. Standing against the forces of evil is Sensei Wu, an old ninja master, and his students, Kai, Jay, Zane, Nya, Cole, and Lloyd. Wu trains his students in the art of Spinjitzu, and each of his students master one of the elemental powers granted to them by their magical golden weapons.

Kai is the red Ninja of Fire. Jay is the blue Ninja of Lightning. Zane is the white Ninja of Ice. Nya is the gray Ninja of Water. Cole is the black Ninja of Earth. Lloyd is the green ninja, the Master of Energy. Together the six ninjas protect the land of Ninjago from Master Garmadon using their powerful weapons, elemental powers, and their robotic mechs.

Over the course of the life of Ninjago, the franchise has added new heroes, villains and evil factions, and new creatures to aid the ninja’s with their mission.

If some of this sounds somewhat familiar, that’s probably because Ninjago is very much a LEGO version of Power Rangers, a group of teenage heroes brought together by a mentor to fight against the forces of darkness using enhanced abilities and giant robots. Which is possibly a factor for the longevity and popularity of the Ninjago line.

The new Ninjago film isn’t the first time the franchise has been adapted, however, with a television series having been around since the launch of Ninjago in 2010. To date Ninjago has had several seasons and a number of specials, with no current plans in place to end the show.

The series has incorporated elements of the toy line, as well as inspiring new play sets and taking on a life of its own. The television show has built upon the initial mythology created for the first line of LEGO sets to the point where the new motion picture has an incredibly solid foundation. Ninjago: Dragons Rising Is A Sequel To The Original Ninjago

Ninjago: Dragons Rising will serve as a sequel in the timeline of the Ninjago series, where the LEGO Ninjago continuity will be maintained. With that being said, Ninjago: Dragons Rising aims to place a principal focus on its new cast of characters instead of rehashing the adventures of its old characters. Per one of Ninjago: Dragon Rising’s lead writers, the series has intentions to cameo past story threads and some of the original ninja, however, it will sustain itself as its own series.

In lead writer Doc Wyatt’s recent Ninjago: Dragons Rising Twitter thread, they reveal the opportunity in the Ninjago world, where there is space to create a separate series that audiences would be able to watch without having the knowledge of Ninjago canon. Alternatively, new viewers can tune in to the adventures of teenagers Arin (Devin Christian Mack) and Sora (Sabrina Pitre) in their unique attempt to save the planet from evil after their respective realms collide. In this series especially, Ninjago will spotlight the forces of dragons and dragon energy in their role with Arin and Sora at the heart of the sequel.

Why Ninjago Made Dragons Rising (Instead Of Season 16)

LEGO’s Ninjago decision to softly reboot the franchise with new components is not altogether surprising. It has happened before when Ninjago dropped the Masters of Spinjitzu title back in season 11; with the dropped title came new writers for the Ninjago series and a shorter runtime in episodes from that point on. These changes made it possible for an even easier watch that viewers could regard without having the knowledge of Ninjago’s upwards of 200 episode range. Ninjago: Dragons Rising may follow the same intentions.

In fact, it would make sense to. LEGO’s Ninjago series has had a long and successful run since 2011, and softly rebooting the franchise again with similar themes, but fresh perspective could continue LEGO’s Ninjago achievement without ever feeling stale or overdone. Continuing the Ninjago timeline is indeed a smart move, with new viewers having a chance to become introduced to LEGO Ninjago: Dragons Rising and old fans having an extensive catalog with unused content soon available at their fingertips.

The Surprising Effect The LEGO NINJAGO Movie Had On Our Kids

I had been scrubbing the pan with the baked-on semi-failed dinner for several minutes, when I realized that it was unusually quiet in our house. We have four boys… four boys should never be quiet. They should be loud. Usually someone is always crying, whining or complaining – it’s just the way it goes when you have what most people consider “a lot of kids.”

I turned down the music… still silence… nothing, nada. It was eerie. I pride myself on being one of those observant parents, but for a few moments, I wondered if the kids were even in the house.

I went upstairs. As I got closer to the second floor, I heard faint voices coming from Jacob’s room. He’s our oldest and he has the biggest bedroom of the four kids. The door was closed, which sent my suspicion into over-drive. What evil plans were they plotting in there?

The kids, all four of them (ages 11, 8, 5 and 3) were playing with their new and old LEGO NINJAGO sets. Jordan (8), he’s normally the ring leader – so it was no surprise when I realized that he was playing the role of Lloyd, the green ninja – the star of the new LEGO NINJAGO movie.

Lloyd, or rather Jordan, said to one of the other ninjas “What is your ninja power, Jay? I know you don’t feel like you are good at anything in particular, but we ALL have something we are good at. EVERYONE has ninja powers. You just have to look within to find them!”… and then he dropped a line from the LEGO NINJAGO Movie: “Even if you are different you can do great things!”

I am not sure which one of the other kids was Jay… all I know is, I felt REALLY proud and happy – and I did a celebratory fist pump in the air… while I quietly went back down stairs and let the four kids play otherwise uninterrupted.
