There are a lot of amazing dual-type Pokemon for players to choose from in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, but some trainers may want to get their hands on some monotype creatures. Best Sinistea locations in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
Sinistea is one of the rarer species you’ll come across during your time in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. It can only be found at two different locations.
According to its Pokédex entry, Sinistea is found near towns and cities living amongst the ruins. This rings true and as you can see on the map these locations are the late-game area in the bottom left corner of Paldea and near Zapapico East earlier in the game.
It is worth noting that, even once you’re able to reach these two locations, finding Sinistea gets much easier as, while they are small compared to other Pokémon, you’ll soon notice more spawning nearby. Stick around in the same area and you’ll have an inventory bursting with Sinistea Chips before you know it.
How to catch Sinistea in Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Sinistea can be found “among ruins,” like certain other spooky or creepy looking Pokemon: but the best place to hunt for them is in the far southwest corner of the map.
You’ll want to head to the town of Alfornada, then run east to a set of ruins there, where you’ll find abundant amounts of Sinistea. We have a full guide on how to farm Sinistea here.
Remember that you can check the stamp of authenticity on the bottom to see if it’s a “real” Sinistea (if it has one, it is). That comes into play during the evolutionary track. The authentic form is a rarer spawn and may require grinding.
How to evolve Sinistea into Polteageist
Although both variations of Sinistea and Polteageist count for the full Pokedex entry, intrepid players might want to find everything they can for a full collection.
In any case, both items you’ll want can be best found at the auction house in Marinada: the seaside town on the west side of the map, above the Asado desert.
If your Sinistea is authentic, you’ll need a Chipped Pot item
If your Sinistea is inauthentic, you’ll need a Cracked Pot item
How To Find Sinistea In Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
One of the best places to grab a Sinistea is outside the city of Alfornada, which is located far to the South West. Unfortunately, to get there, players will need to have unlocked the ability to jump high on their Koraidon or Miraidon.
This means completing two of the Titan Pokemon quests that players are given near the start of the game.
Once players have the ability to jump higher, they can traverse the small cave system just Northwest of Alfornada, which will allow them passage to the city itself. There, players will find wild Sinistea roaming the grassy areas outside the city.
How To Evolve Sinistea Into Polteageist
Once players have their Sinistea, they will need a special item to evolve it into Polteageist. Players need to get their hands on either a Chipped Pot or a Cracked Pot, and which item they will need depends entirely on what “form” their Sinistea is. Sinistea can come in either Phony Form or Authentic Form.
Those that have a Phony Sinistea will need to track down a Chipped Pot to evolve it into Polteageist. Those that have an Authentic Sinistea will need to grab a Cracked Pot.
Thankfully, getting both of these items is pretty simple, as it simply requires players to win them in an auction at the Port Marinada Auction House. Players will actually need to traverse to this location as part of the Gym Test for the Water-type Gym anyway.
Unfortunately, there isn’t any way to tell when these items will show up, and they seem to appear pretty late in the story. Players will simply need to keep checking back at Port Marinada and keep their eyes peeled for any merchants selling a Chipped Pot or Cracked Pot.
Once players have their hands on the Chipped Pot or Cracked Pot, they need to match the appropriate pot type to their Sinistea and use it much like they would use an evolutionary stone.
How to Catch Sinistea in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Sinistea has two main spawn locations in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. The first and easier spot to access is east of Zapapico, a town west of East Province’s Area Three and Levinicia, just east of the Great Crater.
The second spot is around Alfornada, a town in South Province’s Area Six. In particular, you’re likely to find one just east of Alfornada, south of the road. This is where I caught my first one, but I have spotted some at the Zapapico location too. Just make sure you look carefully since Sinistea is a very small Pokemon!
Once you encounter a Sinistea Pokemon in the wild, weaken it and toss a Pokeball! If it doesn’t work right away, try again or swap to a stronger Pokeball.
Sinistea’s Evolution in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet
Sinistea evolves into Polteageist after equipping a Cracked or Chipped Pot onto the Pokemon. If you have a Phony Sinistea, you’ll need a Cracked Pot, while an Authentic Sinistea requires a Chipped Pot.
You’ll know which one you have by catching a Sinistea, entering Let’s Go mode and checking the bottom of the Pokemon’s teacup rim.
If you don’t want to do this, you can also try equipping one of the teapots to your Sinistea to see if it activates the evolution. You’ll know that you need the other pot if it doesn’t.
