When does pokemon scarlet and violet come out? There are only a few days left until the release of Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. While players can currently download and pre-load the upcoming Nintendo Switch titles, they won’t “unlock” or become playable until the release date and time.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet will be released on Friday, November 18, 2022. However, it’s worth noting that there may be time differences depending on the region of the world players live in.
Nevertheless, players around the world will be able to access the games at roughly the same time, at least as far as digital downloads are concerned.
Each region of the world possesses its own defined release time for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. As with previous games, like the Sword and Shield titles for the Nintendo Switch, Game Freak is expected to follow the release schedule that they’ve relied on in the past.
Pokemon Scarlet and Violet: Expected Unlock Time
Standard operating procedure is that Nintendo Switch games that have both a digital and physical release unlock at 9pm PST the night before the release date.
Since Pokemon Scarlet and Violet match that description, players should expect to have access to the digital versions of these games at 9pm PST on Thursday, November 17. For those players that do not live on the West Coast, here is that expected release time converted for the other time zones in the United States:
- MST: 10pm on November 17
- CST: 11pm on November 17
- EST: 12am on November 18
While players wait for these release times to arrive, they may want to confirm that they have some space on their Nintendo Switch consoles. More specifically, fans will need around 7 GB of space in order to download Pokemon Scarlet or Violet, and another 1 GB will be required for an update that is to be made available on release day.
Fans may also want to spend some time thinking about which of the starters they will select at the beginning of their journeys. Indeed, picking a new starter is always a big decision, and this time around fans will be choosing between Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly.
Notably, the final evolutions of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet starters have recently leaked online, and those designs may be of interest to fans that are not adverse to spoilers.
Finally, players may want to do a bit of research on the differences between Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in preface of the release time. Indeed, there are several version-exclusive Pokemon in the Paldea region, which may be worth considering when deciding which version of the game to purchase.
Additionally, each version has its own professor, academy, and uniform, and while those elements should not have a dramatic impact on gameplay, they will still be important to some fans.
WHEN DOES POKEMON HOME COME TO POKEMON SCARLET AND VIOLET?
Compatibility between Pokémon Scarlet, Pokémon Violet, and Pokémon Home is slated for spring 2023, according to The Pokemon Company.
It’s unclear why Pokemon Home wasn’t included at launch, but it’s suspected that it’s due to so many classic Pokemon being included in the Paldean Regional Pokedex, making completing the PokeDex significantly easier.
While we don’t have a firm date for the inclusion of Pokemon Home functionality in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, we know that the mobile version of the Pokemon Home app will be receiving an update in early February, suggesting that compatibility with the new Nintendo Switch games may not be far behind.
Players looking to transfer their Pokemon from Pokemon Home into Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, they will be required to sign up for a Pokemon Home account and link it to their MyNintendo account.
During Pokemon Presents, The Pokemon Company reassured players that the update will be coming during the spring of 2022, and with all of the Pokemon Scarlet and Violet compatibility that’s been added to Pokemon Home outside of transferring itself, we’re hoping it’s soon.
What’s the difference between the two versions?
Generally speaking, when a Pokémon release has two distinct versions, there are subtle differences between the two. The most obvious one is in the logo and colour styling of each game.
You can see this in the image below, which shows the main character in the Scarlet-themed attire. Each version will also have a slightly different Pokémon list, with trading being required for 100% completion. We don’t yet know just how different Pokémon Scarlet and Violet are from each other, but we’re sure to hear more in the coming months.
The August Pokémon Presents event revealed that each Legendary Pokémon for Scarlet and Violet will be rideable. Koraidon and Miraidon will transform into bikes, flying machines and more to aid traversal.
Pokémon Scarlet and Violet – will every Pokémon be included?
Since the launch of Pokémon Sword and Shield back in 2019, the Pokémon games have been experimenting with ditching the National Pokédex, choosing to instead include a specific list of Pokémon.
This is understandable given that there are now well over 900 Pokémon in total. We see some of the Pokémon featured in the games in the reveal trailer, but so far there hasn’t been a full list revealed yet. To see which Pokémon have been revealed so far, check out our Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Pokédex list.
Quest structure
One of the key reveals from the most recent presentation was the fact that there will be three main questlines to follow in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
The first is called Treasure Hunt, and is essentially the traditional gym battle quest. Then there’s Starfall Street, which tasks players with facing off against Team Star, who are described as the school’s troublemakers.
Finally, there’s also Path Of Legends which sees players tasked with seeking out the legendary Herba Mystica. We had a brief glimpse of this in the latest trailer, which can be viewed below:
