When did minecraft java come out? Bedrock Vs Java Edition – What Are The Biggest Differences?

When did minecraft java come out ? Mojang has announced that Minecraft’s separate PC versions will finally be coming together in a bundle releasing on June 7. The new bundle, aptly titled Minecraft: Java and Bedrock Edition for PC, will be the standard version of Minecraft on PC going forward. Mojang stressed in its blog post that this bundle would not merge the two versions; it would simply provide both for one price. “To be clear, Java and Bedrock will remain separate games with their own distinctive features,” Mojang’s announcement read.

Additionally, all PC players who own either version will be upgraded to the new bundle free of charge within a few days of the change going live.

Until now, PC players have had to weigh out which version of Minecraft to get and the debate largely comes down to personal preferences. The Java edition, which was the original Minecraft release, is seen by some as the superior offering on PC for its larger servers and offering of modes, but due to it being coded on Java, this version is also largely incompatible with the dozens of platforms Minecraft has been ported to since then.

For this reason, Mojang developed the Bedrock Edition, which is by and large the standard version that most Minecraft players probably play these days. This version of the game is what players on console or mobile are playing, and touts cross-play between all Bedrock Edition-compatible devices. Minecraft Java Edition players can only cross-play with people on the same version, which is relegated to PC, Mac, and Linux.

Beginning June 7, PC players who want to switch between playing with others on Java or Bedrock just need to launch the respective version from the launcher, which should ease some headaches and altogether smoothen the process of getting into Minecraft on its original system.

Minecraft Java and Bedrock editions are now finally one

For those unaware, there has been two versions of Minecraft – and we’ve learned now both versions are finally united in development.

Minecraft has had the Java version, which is the original base code of the game first created by Notch back in 2009. The game also has the Bedrock edition, which does play similarly to the Java version, but has been following a different update path and is written in C++.

Right now they are sold as two separate games with each being $26.99. Previously there was a point in time where buying the Java edition would give one a free copy of the Bedrock edition, however that offer ended back in 2020.

Now worrying about which version to buy or needing to purchase both is a thing of the past now. Mojang announced starting June 7, they will no longer be selling them separate and instead they will be one single purchase known as Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition for PC.

Those who owned either the Java or the Bedrock editions will also now have access to the one they didn’t previously own.

As the developer notes, “all players that have either Java Edition or Bedrock Edition will receive the edition they do not currently own for free, right in the Minecraft Launcher.” Though they also urge people to be patient as it may “take 2 to 3 days” for it to show up as they roll out the changes.

This change comes at a good time, as the new Minecraft 1.19 update, also known as the Wild Update, is coming out on the same day as this change.

What do you think of this news? Are you someone who owns one of the versions of Minecraft and want to give the other version you didn’t have a change? Or are you one of the unfortunate ones who had recently purchased both before this news came out?

Minecraft is available for Windows PC, Linux, Mac (all via the official website), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, Amazon Fire, Amazon Fire, and Fire TV. The Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Vita, Xbox 360, and Wii U versions have been discontinued and are no longer supported.

So when did Minecraft come out?

Technically (and we fall on this side, too), Minecraft was released in May 2009. This was the first public rollout of the sandbox game by Markus Persson, more famously known as Notch. In 2009, Minecraft was only available on PC and is now referred to as Minecraft Classic. Even if you never played Minecraft this long ago, you’ve likely seen some videos or viral clips of the “old” Minecraft, including how few blocks there were, and the strange “oof” sounds Steve made when he took damage back in the day.

Minecraft Classic was followed by a number of other “versions”, including Alpha and Beta, before the official global release two years later. This is why the actual release date of Minecraft is a hotly-debated topic. However, we fall on the side of 2009 for one main reason… That’s the year Mojang Studios still classes as the “birth” of Minecraft.

Back in May 2019, exactly ten years on from Notch’s first Minecraft release, the studio released the 10 Years of Minecraft map, officially (so we think) confirming that Minecraft came out in 2009. The map, made by blockworks, featured an awesome minecart timeline of the updates that Minecraft has since received, a museum of Minecraft mobs, and a garden of giant mob spawn eggs, alongside loads more. If you have never visited this giant map, you still can, and we can’t recommend it highly enough. Not only will you learn things you didn’t know about the history of Minecraft, it’s just a beautiful, nostalgic trip through Minecraft’s past

What was the 2011 Minecraft release date, then?

In 2011, after Minecraft started to see its success snowball, Notch took a step back, and handed the creative reins to “Jeb”, or Jens Bergensten. Jens is still the game’s lead designer to this day, and you might have seen him if you’ve ever been to or watched Minecraft Live.

After Jens took over in 2011 (though Notch still maintained ownership of the game), Minecraft Java Edition, Pocket Edition and the (now) Legacy Console Editions of the game were rolled out globally. The date many consider to be Minecraft’s official release date is November 18, 2011, because this was a more official and public release of the game.

From there, Minecraft has gone from strength-to-strength with multiple game-changing updates, hundreds of new blocks and mobs, and even the introduction of Alex. Notch sold Minecraft to Microsoft in 2014, which did nothing to slow the success of the game, contrary to fans fears at the time.

So there you have it. Feel free to make your own mind up about when Minecraft came out – but we refer you again to that “10 Years of Minecraft” map *wink, wink*. If this has made you keep to find out even more about Minecraft and Minecraft lore, then why not find out more about Minecraft Steve himself? And what about the weird Enderman language? We’ve got it all and more in our Minecraft hub.
