SO HOW MUCH TIME IS THERE LEFT, EXACTLY?

On June 30, we will discontinue all content and service support for the game. This means that we will stop all development, and after that date, you will be unable to download or play Minecraft Earth anymore. WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO YOUR PURCHASES?

All players with paid ruby balances will be granted Minecoins, which you can use on the Minecraft Marketplace to purchase skin and texture packs, maps, and even minigames. Plus, if you’ve ever made a purchase in Minecraft Earth, you will receive a free copy of Minecraft (the Bedrock version) so you can get a fresh start while grabbing some goodies from the Marketplace!

That being said, we want to take a moment to thank all of the players and creators that are bringing new adventures, mobs, and free in-game items for the community to enjoy while we finalize our timeline for sunsetting the game. Your feedback and creations brought this game to an entirely different level, from the regular build challenges you absolutely smashed to the incredible builds you shared on social media. We’re eternally grateful for the amazing talent in the Minecraft community. This was not an easy decision, and we’re doing everything we can to make sure you get the most out of Minecraft Earth before it sunsets.

Minecraft: What is left with Minecraft Earth gone?

With Minecraft Earth going under, Mojang has committed to reallocating its resources to its other Minecraft properties. How exactly they’ll move around their money and manpower invested in Minecraft Earth is unclear, but there are still plenty of properties that Mojang retains that are still being constantly updated and developed.

There are of course Minecraft’s Java and Bedrock editions, which are developed on PC and console platforms. There’s Minecraft’s Pocket Edition, developed for mobile devices.

There’s also Minecraft’s Education Edition, which is used specifically for classroom environments. Lastly, there’s Minecraft Dungeons, which is more of an action RPG game than a block builder like the original.

Telltale Games has also published Minecraft Story Mode, but this series of story-based episodes reached its conclusion shortly after LCG Entertainment acquired Telltale’s assets and there has been no news about a revival.

With so much content being released for the original Minecraft editions, it is likely that some programmers and managers will revert back to the main franchise entry. However, it’s entirely possible that Mojang may reallocate its resources to a project that has yet to be announced.

Everything is left under the umbrella of speculation until more information is released, but Mojang isn’t a company known to squander the capabilities of its development teams.

Since so many games are currently being updated and developed at once by Mojang and backed by Microsoft, there is always more going on behind the scenes than the player base can truly be aware of.

Only time will tell if Minecraft Earth’s demise bolsters the original properties or allows for a future expansion, but make no mistake that the Minecraft community will keep their eyes and ears open for any and all developments.

It’s not shocking to witness Minecraft Earth’s demise, as the game started off rough with a strangely subdued soft launch and a myriad of foundational issues like aggressive microtransactions, gatekeeping timers, and more. With mobile gaming behemoths like Pokemon Go providing players with a never-ending stream of new content and a constantly evolving play model to adapt to current events, Minecraft Earth’s glaring flaws became all the more egregious.

It wasn’t until it was announced that Minecraft Earth was being closed down for good that Mojang Studios actually addressed many of these flaws (while demonetizing the game), but it was too little too late. Now, the fascinating but doomed Minecraft mobile experiment comes to an end forever.
