How to make a secret door in minecraft? Secret doors are the most effective way of keeping your treasures away from other Minecraft players. We aren’t talking about a dirt door that should be broken and rebuilt every time you want to enter your secret room. Over the years that Minecraft has been around, players have come up with numerous more sophisticated methods of building hidden entrances.
This guide will explain making a secret door using Pressure Plates, Sticky Pistons, Item Frames, and Buttons. We’ll also share simpler methods not involving Redstone or Sticky Pistons. Read on to discover how you can prevent others from snatching your treasures in Minecraft.
How to Make a Secret Door in Minecraft With Sticky Pistons
A door activated by Pressure Plates is very convenient, though it isn’t too secretive. To hide it from others, you can build it from material matching your door. This way, your door won’t be visible unless someone stands on the plates. Here’s how to make such a door
Where to Place Your Secret Door in Minecraft
Before you begin, you should consider where you want your secret door. Other players can still find your hidden passage by digging, so you’ll want to build somewhere inconspicuous, preferably in an isolated or underground location. It’s best to carve out a room in a cliff face and seal it with a secret door that blends in with the surrounding blocks.
How to make a secret door in Minecraft
There may come a time where you will need to prioritize your privacy above all else in Minecraft. The last thing you want or need are griefers who can and will take advantage of your abode and make life more difficult for where you may store your items or base. This is where a secret door can come in handy so that locating such an important location isn’t easy. In this article, we shall go over how exactly you can build your own secret door from the ground up, and what you will need to make it in the first place.
How to Build a Concealed Door
The easiest kind of secret door is one that doesn’t utilize actual Minecraft Doors or any of the more complicated Redstone Mechanics. This type of secret door is perfect for hiding rooms in plain view inside your base.
All that you will need is a hole in the wall, 2 Signs, and a Painting.
Dig out the entrance into the room you wish to hide. Keep it as a regular 1×2 opening. On one of the sides of the opening place down your two Signs. Make sure that the overall size of the wall you’re using is big enough for a large Painting.
Too small of a Painting won’t hide the door efficiently. I found that the perfect height for the wall is 3 blocks tall. That way the large Painting fits perfectly.
Paintings can only be placed on solid blocks and Signs.
Once you have your doorway ready all you have to do is place the Painting on the wall. The Painting will cover the opening completely, but you can still pass through the Painting and into the room behind it.
Simple Redstone Hidden Door
Like with anything Redstone related, there’s endless options and possibilities. Same goes when making hidden doors.
You can make a simple hidden door or an entire mechanism that hides a whole cave. For this article I will stick to a more simple version of a hidden door.
For this you will need 12 Sticky Pistons, 4 Redstone Repeater, and some Redstone Dust. This will be a door that is 2 blocks wide.
You start off by making 2 L-shapes with the Sticky Pistons as shown in the image below, with your door blocks inside the corners. I am using Stone because I want to imagine this door being hidden within a mountain side.
You will need “roof” above the Pistons. If you’re doing this in a mountain or any terrain you’ll need a 1 block tall gap above it to place all your Redstone components.
Place your Redstone Repeaters and Redstone Dust in the following pattern on the “roof” or gap. The Redstone Repeaters you want to put on one tick each. Simply right-click them once.
That is basically all there is to your secret door. Simply place a Lever or Button where the Redstone Dust extends to the front. With this you can activate the system.
To keep it hidden you can simply take your Button or Lever with you.
Similarly to the secret door, we can use Redstone to hide a whole staircase. It can be used to hide a whole floor within your base or to make the real entrance to your base completely out of reach. It works particularly well when paired with the previous design for a hidden door.
Depending on how far up the entrance will be, you might need quite a few Sticky Pistons. One for each block of Stairs.
Start by lining up placing down your Sticky Pistons, two blocks inside the wall. Make sure to have a free solid block behind your Pistons, because this is where your Redstone wiring will run.
Once all your Pistons are placed put down a Stair block on the side of each of them. Under the Stairs put down your regular blocks you will have for this wall.
Now, to hide the Stairs we will simply place more Stairs to the side, so that the Stairs curve in a way to look like they’re part of the wall. It is the same curving mechanics you use when building spiral staircases.
All that is left is putting down the Redstone Dust on top of each block behind the Sticky Pistons and putting down your Lever or Button.
Additionally, to make it more hidden you can use a Redstone Comparator and an Item Frame as a key or by utilizing Sculk Sensors.
How To Build A Hidden Door in Minecraft
With the materials in the inventory, all that’s needed now is a large obscure location to build the entrance to the secret base, such as one of Minecraft’s cave walls or cliff-sides. Once an area has been found, equip a pickaxe and carve out an upside-down “L” into the wall.
After players hollow out the shape, cover the bending insert of the “L” with a wall of Sticky Pistons, stacked on top of each other to form a large two-dimensional square (which can be seen on the left side of the image below). Now, replicate the right image and place stack two more pistons in front of the left side of the build. However, these should face to the right side of the previous four pistons rather than away.
With the Minecraft build almost over, dig out a 4×4 space above the Pistons. Now, build a similar-looking “L” shape and line the surface with three pieces of Redstone dust, with a Redstone repeater in the middle. This block works as a circuit of sorts that will to “repeat” Redstone signals to “lock” in a single state.
Outside, place a Redstone torch near the entrance which will operate as a key to opening the hidden door. Back inside the large Minecraft base, dig out a room towards the Redstone torch and place a Sticky Piston on the block, countering the torch. This will activate the Piston, launching its plate forwards. Now, stick an observer onto the plate, followed by a Redstone block.
Finally, as depicted in the Minecraft screenshots above, players must now build a stairway towards the original Sticky Piston wall. These small steps will carry the Redstone dust and connect the two builds.
With the secret hidden door built, players who wish to access the base will need to place a Redstone torch in the previously set location. Doing so will cause the seemingly normal cave wall to open up, making this easily one of Minecraft’s most hidden base builds.
