Olaf’s Frozen Adventure (2017)

It’s the first Christmas after the castle gates reopened so Anna and Elsa celebrate with the whole of Arendelle. When citizens retire to their homes to be with their families and celebrate the holidays together, the sisters realize that they do not respect the family tradition of celebrating Christmas like the rest of the people, so Olaf and reindeer Sven decide to explore the customs of the kingdom and learn the meaning of the holidays.

And while Olaf and Sven drag sledges across the snowy tundra and end up in a forest where they are attacked by wolves, in the attic Anna and Elsa find some forgotten things from the past.

Olaf’s Frozen Adventure is the next movie in Frozen chronological order and it happens on the first Christmas after the original movie (and Once Upon a Snowman – which happens at the same time as the original Frozen).

On the page for Olaf’s Frozen Adventure, it states it’s the first holiday season since the gates reopened, placing it in December 1839. This date is important for the next movie in our list.

Frozen Fever (2015)

It’s Anna’s birthday and Elsa and Kristoff have decided to prepare her the best celebration ever, however Elsa’s icy powers could put her at risk for more than just the fun itself.

According to the Arendelle page, Frozen takes place in July 1839. It states Anna was born during the Summer solstice (so, somewhere around June 20-22). Her 19th birthday in Frozen Fever would then be set in June 1840, just the next year after Olaf’s Frozen Adventure.

Myth: A Frozen Tale (2020)

A prequel short to Frozen II titled Myth: A Frozen Tale was released on June 11, 2020 and is directed by Jeff Gipson. The short features Evan Rachel Wood portraying an Arendelle mother as she narrates the story of the elementals.

As it is designed to work as a prequel to Frozen II, we will sort it just before this movie. It explains elements that happen in Frozen II and makes it easier to follow.

Frozen II (2019)

Why was Elsa born with magical powers? What truths about the past await her as she sets off into the unknown to the enchanted forests and dark seas outside Arendelle? The answers to these questions summon her, but also threaten her kingdom.

Together with Anna, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven, they will face a dangerous but miraculous journey. In “Frozen,” Elsa feared that her powers were too much for this world. In “Frozen II”, she must hope that they are enough.

Currently the last Frozen movie in chronological order. More will certainly follow in the future and we will be adding them to the list as they do.

Frozen 3 potential release date: When could we expect Frozen 3?

The new movie was officially announced by Disney boss Bob Iger in February 2023, but he didn’t give any further information on how far along the new movie is, development-wise.

There were six years between the release dates for Frozen and Frozen 2, so that’s as good of a marker for when we can probably expect Frozen 3. Fans might have to wait until 2025 for the return of Anna and Elsa.

Whenever we hear more, we’ll update this piece.

Frozen 3 cast: Who’s coming back for Frozen 3?

It wouldn’t be a Frozen movie without Kristen Bell as Anna, Idina Menzel as Elsa, Josh Gad as Olaf and Jonathan Groff as Kristoff (and Sven).

All of them will likely be back and although it hasn’t been officially confirmed by Disney, Menzel hinted that they’ll all be back – even though she doesn’t anything about the movie yet.

“To be completely honest, they teased it to us, and I have no idea. They don’t show you a script. They don’t show you anything,” she said in June 2023 while speaking to Billboard. “All I know is, yeah we are gonna make one, and that’s it.”

Elsewhere, there are likely returns from Sterling K Brown as Mattias, Jason Ritter as Northuldra member Ryder, Rachel Matthews as Ryder’s sister Honeymaren and Ciarán Hinds as Rock Trolls leader Pabbie.

After flashbacks in Frozen 2, we could also see more of Evan Rachel Wood and Alfred Molina as Anna and Elsa’s parents Iduna and Agnarr.

Frozen 3 plot: How does Frozen 2’s ending set up a third movie?

The sequel sees Anna and Elsa head to the enchanted forest outside of Arendelle to discover why a mysterious voice has been calling to Elsa and to stop the enchanted spirits from destroying Arendelle.

It turns out that back in the past, there was a battle between Arendelle soldiers and the people of Northuldra who live in the forest, leading to the forest being blocked off from the rest of the world.

Long story short, Anna and Elsa discover that their parents were on their way to Ahtohallan to discover the source of Elsa’s power when they were shipwrecked. Anna and Elsa find their parents’ ship in the enchanted forest and learn that their mother was Northuldran.

What’s more, their grandfather was responsible for the conflict and created a dam in the forest that was intended to weaken the Northuldran people. To right the wrongs of the past, Anna realises she needs to break the dam to free the forest.

And she does it just in time. Elsa was frozen in Ahtohallan seeking the voice, which turned out to be a memory of her mother. Elsa becomes the “fifth spirit”, the bridge between the magical world and the human world.

But, as we all know, a bridge has two sides and Anna is the other one. So, Elsa stays in the forest and Anna becomes Queen of Arendelle, ensuring that the two kingdoms live happily ever after.

It feels like a natural conclusion to the arcs set up in Frozen, delivering on the promise of the producer that the two movies would tell “one complete story”. Elsa has now fully accepted her magical side and Anna has found her place in the world.

Who knows what the threequel will be about at this stage, but Gad has previously said the movie would only happen if there “was a reason to exist” like with the sequel.

“I don’t know if and when there will be a Frozen 3. That’s way above my pay grade,” he told PopCulture. “If there’s always a story worth telling, I’m sure that Jennifer Lee and the incredible team over at Disney animation will tell that story one day.”

Let’s hope they’ve found that story.
